“Nothing’s holding me back anymore. I know what I want, and I’m gonna get it.” - Queen B
Chuck and Blair 5.24 “The Return of the Ring”
I agree. People have always seen Chuck as the villain, a person who isn’t capable of real love because he’s rich. But he is nothing like that anymore. if anything, he’s the exact opposite of the boy who used to hire twins to entertain him and sold girls out for hotels. He changed and has been paying for his actions since the end of season 3. Ever since the incident in season 3 finale all everyone could think of when they hear the name Chuck Bass is “he’s the guy who sold Blair for a hotel”. But everyone seems to forget that Blair also sold Chuck out for a speech. It’s like everything Chuck does is wrong. He’s human people! And human’s make mistakes. Blair has forgiven Chuck for the hotel incident, why can’t we? Did he sell you for a hotel? He didn’t! So just get over it.
In season 5, we see that Chuck is trying to make amends for all his done to Blair in the past. We can see him asking for forgiveness in 5.06. He let Blair be happy with the prince even though he knew she loved him, he didn’t object to their marriage. He paid her dowry so she could be free again, and this act almost bankrupted Bass Industries, but he didn’t care, he put Blair’s happiness above his future. And now that he lost everything because of that, he isn’t allowed to feel cheated? To feel like he lost everything for nothing? Even if he got Blair and decided to take her back at the rooftop, he would be reduced to being Blair Waldorf’s Partner/Boyfriend/Husband. And for God’s sakes HE’S CHUCK BASS.
We know that the most important thing to both Chuck and Blair is their image, how the world sees them, their individuality. So to Chuck, what’s the point of being with Blair Waldorf if I can’t be Chuck Bass? That’s the very reason they didn’t work out the first time because when Blair was with Chuck, she wasn’t Blair Waldorf, she was Chuck Bass’s girlfriend. And I think, in order for them to work as a couple, they have to both feel powerful individually and not just because they are dating each other, but because they are Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf two people, fighting the world together as a couple but still themselves.
I can go on and on explaining that Chuck has the right to be upset, but I think I’ve said enough. I just hope that everyone could stop seeing Chuck as a villain because Blair obviously doesn’t and to me that’s important.
“Coz love does not just disappear.”
